Teamsters Local 700 Endorses Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in 2024 Presidential Election
PARK RIDGE, ILL. - Today, Teamsters Local 700, representing 10,000 public service workers across Chicago and Illinois, announced its endorsement of Kamala Harris and Tim Walz for President and Vice President of the United States. The endorsement, made unanimously by the Local 700 Executive Board, comes after a significant majority of the Local 700 membership voted to endorse the Biden/Harris ticket at an IBT Presidential Straw Poll in May.
"Kamala Harris and Tim Walz are undoubtedly the best choice for Teamsters and all working people in this election," said Teamsters Local 700 President Ramon Williams. "Vice President Harris has been a longtime supporter of workers' rights, and cast the tie-breaking vote to protect the financial stability of the Teamsters pension fund that serves many of our brothers and sisters across the country. Gov. Tim Walz is a former union member himself who understands the value and importance of unions in the modern economy. The Harris/Walz ticket will protect union rights, reject so-called 'right-to-work laws', grow the economy, support our fight for fair pension benefits like the Fix Tier 2 effort, and preserve our democracy in this uncertain time."
"This decision was an easy one, because former President Donald Trump has proved himself to be anti-union through and through," said Williams. "He has bragged about firing union workers on strike and appointed anti-union justices to the Supreme Court. His divisive and hateful rhetoric has pushed our country in a dark direction, and it is clear that his Project 2025 plan for the future would be a disaster for union workers and all middle class families."
The union will continue to educate its members in Illinois about the importance of supporting the Harris/Walz ticket in the upcoming election, and will join in efforts to support grassroots political engagement in nearby swing states.
