CCDOC: Take Action

The Cook County Jail is clearly ground zero for the spread of COVID-19. One of every six COVID-19 cases in Illinois can be traced back to the Cook County Jail*, where correctional officers can’t socially distance and the spread continues to threaten the lives of workers, their families and the community at large.

So why has Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle been undermining the safety and health of correctional officers since the start of this pandemic?

The Cook County Jail has caused more spread of COVID-19 than any other location in the country, yet Toni Preckwinkle and the Cook County Board of Commissioners still refuse to provide hazard pay for correctional officers risking their lives every day to keep the community safe.

These essential workers need to remain safe on the job, and they need to be fairly compensated for their service. More than 500 correctional officers and jail workers have contracted COVID-19, and four workers have tragically died.

Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle has failed to protect our front-line correctional officers and is failing to protect the community from COVID-19!

Call Board President Toni Preckwinkle’s office NOW at 312-603-6400 and demand that ALL Cook County Corrections Officers receive hazard pay during the pandemic!
