Edward Kern and Melissa Molina join Teamsters Local 700 as Business Agents for the CCDOC

Chicago Il- CCDOC Veteran Edward Kern has been a Sheriff for 20 years and spending several years working on behalf of officers as a Union Steward. Ed emerged as one of the leaders of the advocacy movement within the Jail over the last year. Teamsters Local 700 quickly recognized that he was the best candidate to help Teamsters keep their promise of open communications and material action on behalf of Officers at the Jail.

When asked about his new role as Business Agent, Edward Kern said, “I’m excited for this new role at the DOC. It allows me to continue fighting this administration according to the needs and wants of the Officers. We have a lot of work to do, but I believe we are going in the right direction. We have a great team of Stewards in the Union office and the divisions, and together I believe we are going to accomplish great things for Officers at the Jail.”

Melissa Molina, a veteran at the Jail, excelled due to her inexhaustible energy and attention to detail. Her power when advocating for Officers graduated her to the role of Business Agent to provide back-up to Ed Kern and manage other units. Melissa has shown dedication and passion that Local 700 Leadership knew would translate when representing the broader membership.

Business Agent, Melissa Molina remarked, “I’m excited to be offered the Business Agent position with Local 700 and the CCDOC. The membership of Local 700 has been my number one focus since day one of becoming a union steward I’m going to ‘crush’ all the challenges that I face as a Business Agent and prove that the members’ faith in me is justified.  ‘Remember I am always easy to get in touch with and you won’t be disappointed.’”

With the CCDOC members in good hands, Anthony McGee will be stepping away from his role as CCDOC Business Agent to conquer issues with Cook County and other employers at large. “It has been an honor working with the fearless men and women at the Jail to get benefits befitting their continued sacrifices and professionalism, said McGee. I know Ed and Molina will do an exceptional job on the Officers’ behalf and I look forward to what I know will be a very bright future.”

We thank and applaud our members with the CCDOC for their support, dedication, and hard work during the most trying era of the century at the Cook County Jail.  With their leadership inside and outside the Jail, we can deliver on the promise that Teamsters Local 700 will never turn their backs on our members. We are looking forward to advocating for Officers with the CCDOC as we move forward together.
