Teamsters Local 700 President Ramon D. Williams Moves forward Against Sheriff Dart’s Harmful Bid
Chicago: Once again, the Sheriff is using his emergency powers to put officers in harm’s way along with attempting to diminish your rights as officers. Teamsters Local 700 has repeatedly demanded that Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart halt the upcoming bid at the Cook County Department of Corrections. Sheriff Dart’s Office has ignored this request and the ramifications that these bids have on the units inside and outside of the CCDOC Compound.
Teamsters Local 700 President Ramon D. Williams issued the following statement:
Sheriff Dart has gone too far in abusing his emergency powers by robbing one unit to staff another. Instead of halting bids until it is safe to conduct them, Sheriff Dart has ignored his obligations to the safety and welfare of our members.
We are filing an injunction against this bid based on the welfare and safety of our members. We need to force the Sheriff’s Office to be responsible and consider the welfare of his officers and their families.
In addition, gutting units to cover for his negligence in staffing the Jail is unacceptable. We insist the bid be halted until the Sheriff takes our concerns seriously and conduct a bid that is safe, fair and equitable. We insist that he place positions back in External Operations and other divisions where cuts were made.
We must stand together as Teamster Brothers and Sisters by letting the Sheriff know that we will not stand for his incompetence. We will continue to fight for your rights on all fronts and apply all of our resources until this issue is resolved.
