Union and Sheriff’s Office Agree to Extra Compensatory Time for CCDOC Members Working With COVID-19 Positive Detainees

After COVID-19 began spreading like wildfire through the Cook County Jail, Teamsters Local 700 and the Sheriff’s office began negotiations on an agreement where any officer working with infected detainees would be given compensatory time over and above their regular salary.

The agreement states any officer working with detainees isolated or quarantined due to COVID-19 shall receive an extra half hour of compensatory time for every hour worked.

“The officers at the Cook County Jail are working in a COVID-19 hot spot and are undeniably deserving of more compensation for their continued sacrifices,” said Teamsters Local 700 President Ramon D. Williams. “Our top concern is, and always has been, the health and safety of our members no matter the situation, and while working under these unprecedented conditions, they should be compensated accordingly.”

The agreement stays in effect while any isolation, quarantine, bootcamp or emergency housing assignments remain in existence for detainees with COVID-19. Any approved legislation regarding public safety compensation would also supersede this agreement.

The union is actively fighting to get the same compensatory time for everyone that is currently working at CCDOC.
