OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM TEAMSTERS LOCAL 700 PRESIDENT RAMON D. WILLIAMS
Dorothy Brown Eludes her Employees on Protection From COVID-19
Teamsters Local 700 is appalled at the complete lack of leadership at the Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County as ignorance to the current national crisis is threatening the well being of our membership.
At the helm of the operation is Dorothy Brown who, along with her executive leadership staff, has been missing in action while her loyal employees come to work everyday and risk exposing themselves to COVID-19 to continue providing essential services to the public.
Brown is putting her own health and safety first, instead of coming up with a comprehensive plan to protect her employees to the fullest extent during this time of crisis. She states that there aren’t any confirmed cases of COVID-19 in any of the districts, so employees should just keep taking proper measures to make sure they wash their hands and stay six feet away from each other. That is NOT enough.
The Clerks have not been afforded the ability to work remotely and there is a blatant misdirection of compassion that is missing here. The courts and service areas of each district welcome thousands of people every day and no one can be certain on who is carrying the virus into the facilities.
At the very least, Brown could provide all of her employees across all districts enough hand sanitizer, rubber gloves and masks to perform their normal tasks without having to sacrifice their health. There has been no plan whatsoever. As the representatives of this great sector of membership, we know there are multiple options and crisis plans that could go into effect to further protect employees.
We are working diligently to address these issues at the Clerk’s Office as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread. Please have faith in your union as we are doing everything possible to reduce your risk of contracting the virus while you are still mandated to be at work.
