On Feb. 27, 2020, members of Teamsters Local 700 employed by the State of Illinois, Department of Transportation, successfully ratified a new four-year agreement. The contract covers nearly 300 members who work within IDOT, CMS, IDES and IDHS and will expire on June 30, 2023.
During the past few months, Local 700 met with representatives from the State of Illinois to negotiate a new collective bargaining agreement on behalf of all Teamsters across the State who work for IDOT, CMS, IDES and IDHS. Local 700 partnered with Teamster affiliates at Local 330 and downstate Locals during these negotiations so that all members would be represented in one cohesive voice at the bargaining table.
Teamsters Joint Council 25 representatives reviewed all tentative agreements that were drafted by each Local and subsequently approved them for ratification.
After the membership voted down the State’s first agreement on Feb. 1, the new Local 700 administration reached out to the State to reconvene negotiations and attain another agreement.
“I would like to congratulate our IDOT membership on ratifying a great contract that they can all be proud of and I commend them for staying unified through the process,” said Teamsters Local 700 President Ramon D. Williams. “We know the work that our IDOT membership does is crucial to both the State and to the residents of Illinois each and every day. On behalf of the Teamsters Local 700 Executive Board, I would also like to thank Teamsters Joint Council 25 President Terry Hancock for his guidance and leadership on overseeing the contract process for these members statewide.”
The contract does not include terms for the members that are “snowbirds” who join IDOT each winter season to help with snow operations. Snowbirds have a separate Memorandum of Understanding that is currently being negotiated with the State.
