Local 700 ISP Master Sergeants Lobby Lawmakers in D.C. on key Funding Program

Illinois State Police Master Sergeants Bill Backus and Christopher Sullivan descended on Capitol Hill this week to lobby lawmakers as part of the National Narcotic Officers’ Associations Coalition (NNOAC). Bill serves as the Director of the North Central Narcotics Task Force and Chris serves as the Lake County Metropolitan Enforcement Group Director.

Bill and Christopher met with Illinois lawmakers to ensure their continued support of the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) program. The JAG program is administered by the Office of Justice Program’s Bureau of Justice Assistance, and provides federal criminal justice funding to state, local and tribal jurisdictions. It is an important source of federal funding for law enforcement that the Master Sergeants say allows officers to “keep the lights on.”

The two stopped by Teamsters headquarters yesterday to show their union pride, saying that nothing beats the expertise of a Teamster contract.
