All affected Teamsters Local 700 members who work for the City of Chicago will receive their retroactive MARBA increase of $1 per hour on this Friday’s Nov. 22, 2019 paycheck. The prevailing wage rate set by MARBA is retroactive to July 1, 2019.
Since MARBA released the prevailing wage rate in mid-September, Secretary-Treasurer Vincent F. Tenuto, Jr. was persistent in confronting the City to get the back pay issued.
“It was imperative that we stayed on top of the City to take care of this for our members,” said Secretary-Treasurer Tenuto. “Our members are relying on that money and we are beyond pleased that they are receiving it in a timely manner and before the holiday season. Typically, the City would have up to 90 days to get the back pay issued, and this disbursement will be well before that timeline.”
The prevailing wage rate is determined through negotiations between the Mid-America Regional Bargaining Association (MARBA) and associated labor organizations, which includes several Locals within Teamsters Joint Council 25.
