Service Writers Awarded Backpay for Missed Step Increases After Local 700 Files Grievance

Service Writer Beverly Cunningham recently received a check for back pay she was owed from the City of Chicago.

Nearly a dozen service writers working in various City of Chicago departments have been made whole after the City failed to honor years of multiple contractual step increases and, in some cases, overtime.

The issue was brought to the attention of Local 700 from a service writer, and after further investigation, the Union found that other service writers were also missing pay increases. Local 700 wrote a grievance on behalf of all the affected service writers and demanded that the City make all of them whole.

One service writer received more than $200,000 from the City due to this mistake. All others affected have also received their checks.
