Communities in south Texas are reeling from one of the worst natural disasters in U.S. history. Hurricane Harvey has resulted in unprecedented flooding that is devastating working families in the area, including many of our Teamster brothers and sisters.
This disaster calls for an immediate response from all of us. With rain still falling and rescue workers overwhelmed, many Teamsters are stepping up to help in this time of need.
Teamster Local 988 in Houston is coordinating with the Teamsters Disaster Relief Fund and is setting up a staging area for donated supplies at the union hall. The Local is also providing meals to members and retirees affected by the storm.
We’ve heard from other Teamster Local Unions around the country that have chipped in to the Fund and several more that are organizing donation drives to send trucks down to Texas. In the coming days and weeks, we’ll have more information about what individual Local Unions are doing to help, as well as information about what type of donated items are most needed in the region.
In the meantime, please give generously to the Teamsters Disaster Relief Fund. Credit card donations can be made here.
