Cook County Clerk and Local 700 member Miacole Nelson is running for the position of 7th Ward Alderman of Calumet City. Her election will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2017. Miacole has lived in Calumet City for the past 17 years. After graduating from high school, she immediately went to work for The Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County and has been there for 20 years. Miacole’s career in public service began in 2004 when she became more involved in the community, schools and park districts.

In 2011, Miacole was appointed to be an alternate union steward for the Local 700 Clerk’s bargaining unit. Serving as an alternate union steward, her natural leadership style and ability to communicate with members and effectively address their concerns. Miacole was then elected to be the primary union steward for her District in 2012.

In 2013, Miacole was appointed to the Board of Education for Thornton Fractional Township High School District 215. In 2014, she was elected to serve a two-year term for that position. She was also involved in successfully negotiating a contract for Thornton Fractional Federation of Teachers Local 683, which represents the 227 certified staff members serving the students and families of District 215.

Miacole is an active member of New Zion Temple and enjoys spending time with her children, family and friends.
