Teamsters Local 700 would like to thank all of our members who supported the campaigns for both John Sciaraffa and Sam Richardson, who ran for the position of pension board Trustee in their prospective divisions. Unfortunately, we didn’t win either election, but we appreciate the effort from the candidates and all of our members who volunteered their time to vote and help with the elections.
Special thanks goes out to the members who took the time to drive other Local 700 members to and from their jobs to vote.
John Sciaraffa ran for Trustee of the of the Municipal Employees’ Annuity and Benefit Fund of Chicago on Oct. 30. All City of Chicago employees were eligible to vote. Sciaraffa could have been the first Teamster and Local 700 member to sit on the MEABF pension board. The election results are as follows:
Jeff Johnson, 202 votes
Anthony Clancy, 200 votes
John Sciaraffa, 185 votes
Sam Richardson ran for re-election as Trustee for the County Employees’ Annuity and Benefit Fund of Cook County on Oct. 28. Richardson was first elected Trustee in 2012 and his re-election would have impacted the retirement interests of Forest Preserve employees. Cook County Chief Attorney Dennis White was voted in by a 2-1 margin. All Forest Preserve employees were eligible to vote in the election, and also had the option of a mail-in ballot. The election results are as follows:
Dennis White, 68 votes
Sam Richardson, 33 votes
“Local 700 applauds our candidates for their efforts in running for these positions and wanting to protect the rights and benefits of all of our members,” said Becky Strzechowski, Local 700 President. “We were unfortunately beat out this time but we will have another chance to have representation on these boards in the future.”
