Teamsters in Oak Forest ratified two contracts in early December to protect the benefits and rights of members in the village’s clerical staff and public works department.
The Teamsters negotiated an 11 percent increase for Oak Forest Public Works Department members over the next four years, retroactive to May 2014, making it among the highest paid public works departments in Illinois. The Oak Forest Clerical Staff secured an 11.25 percent salary increase over four years through their Teamster contract.
The 20-member public works department in Chicago’s southwest suburb secured other benefits like additional $100 in boot and clothing allowance and a two-hour overtime guarantee for any amount of time worked over 15 minutes before or after the
scheduled shift. Members also maintained a 30-minute unpaid break and a one hour paid lunch, which are both contractually protected.
The successor contract for Oak Forest Public Works Department also brought members an improved deferred compensation program with the employer now matching employee contributions after the first $500.
The seven-member Oak Forest Clerical Staff members secured other benefits in addition to the salary increase like comp time protections. For any hours worked over 40, members in the village’s clerical staff can now choose to use those hours as comp time or be paid out as overtime.
The Teamsters represent the clerical staff who perform administrative work for the village’s public works department, the payroll department, the fire department and more.
