Gag Order Issued in Case of Hit-and-Run That Killed Corrections Officer

FROM CHICAGOTRIBUNE.COM:

A gag order has been issued in the case of a man accused of killing an Indiana corrections officer in a hit-and-run accident last week, officials said today.

The Lake County sheriff's office had said they expected Jason Cozmanof to appear at a hearing today and plead guilty to charges in connection with the March 6 death of Officer Britney Meux.

But officials said no such plea was entered and a judge issued a gag order. No other details were released. Cozmaof's attorney, Jim Thiros of Merrillville, could not be reached for comment.

Meux was killed and three other corrections officers were injured when an SUV plowed into them as they were jogging in Crown Point, near the Lake County Sheriff's complex. Lake County Police say Cozmanoff was driving his 2002 GMC Yukon at 60mph when he hit the officers and fled.

Cozmanoff, 42, of Lakes of the Four Seasons, Ind., surrendered to police the next day and has been charged with reckless homicide and criminal recklessness.
