‘Everyone Was Happy to Work with Him’ UIC Member Loses Long Battle with Cancer
D. Bob Engel, University of Illinois at Chicago driver for over 15 years, died on Sept. 8 after a long battle with cancer. Friends, co-workers and fellow Teamsters all mourn his loss.
“He just had a knack for his job,” said Joe Fabrizio, Local 700 member and one of Engel’s co-workers. “He was very knowledgeable about what was happening around campus. Everyone was happy to work with him.”
Engel, who served in the Vietnam War, will be buried at Lincoln National Memorial in Joliet with other veterans.
“Bob wasn’t just know for enjoying his job or being pleasant to be around– he fully embodied the Teamsters spirit,” said John T. Coli, Local 700 Trustee. “He was as dedicated to his job as he was to his friends and family and he will truly be missed.”
