March 7, 2011 Local 700 member Steve Pernice, in conjunction with the Chicago Wolves, has helped coordinate the "Guns N Hoses" event on Saturday, March 19 at 7 p.m. at Allstate Arena. The event will showcase several police departments matching off in friendly games against local fire departments. Many Local 700 members from the Wooddale Police Department will be participating in this event. "As police officers, we get a lot back from the community," Pernice said. "My philosophy is to give back to the communities that support us, specifically children-based charities, because everyone loves kids. You can't argue with that." Since 2001, when members began participating in this event, Guns N Hoses has raised well over $60,000 for many organizations including the American Brain Tumor Association, the Mario Lemieux Cancer Foundation and the New York Police Fire Widows & Children's Benefit Fund. "We're all about family, so it's easy to support something that directly helps so many children and their families," said John T. Coli, Local 700 Trustee. "The members who help make this event possible are representing the entirety of Local 700 by saying they put families and their needs above all else." The Guns N Hoses event will take place on Saturday, March 19. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. for the four day games and at 6 p.m. for the Chicago Wolves games that night. Five dollars from each $14 ticket sale will go toward Almost Home Kids.
